I don’t go crazy with decorations for St. Patrick’s Day but I always like a good excuse to redecorate my mantel! This year I’m doing a pretty simple mantel (posting next week!) and the focal point is this fun Rainbow & Gold St. Patrick’s Day sign I made!
I’ve used this same fun plaque (found at Hobby Lobby) to make a Christmas and a Valentine’s Day sign. And today I’m showing you my St. Patrick’s Day version. Rainbows for days!! And who doesn’t love gold right now, right?
If you want to make one you’ll need some supplies (I found them all at Hobby Lobby):
- wood plaque
- craft paints (rainbow colors as well as white and gold metallic)
- Small wood letters to spell out LUCKY
- Shamrock Printable that you can download HERE.
- foam brushes
- 1″ painter’s tape
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
Paint entire plaque white and allow to dry. Tape off stripes (spacing 1″ apart) and paint in rainbow colors. I did the bottom stripe in the gold metallic paint because I had an extra stripe. Allow paint to dry and remove painter’s tape. Paint tops of wood letters gold. Download shamrock printable and cut out shamrock (I recommend printing on cardstock).
I just used a little dab of hot glue to attach each letter (I used one of my pot lids as a guide to arrange the letters in a curve like that) and also dabbed a bit of glue to attach the shamrock. You might want to mod podge the shamrock on before attaching the letters to make it more permanent. I liked having it be a little bit 3D and off the board a bit.
It’s such a cute little sign and can go pretty much anywhere… on a shelf, on a mantel, or if you attach some ribbon it could hang on your front door. Lots of fun options!
I can’t wait to show you the rest of my mantel. Feelin’ pretty LUCKY over here. 🙂
Love this, my clever friend!
