Hello! I’m so glad you’re here! I’m also glad October is now officially here and we fully embrace all-things-pumpkin and not feel bad about it one bit! Time to put some pumpkins on the porch and in every nook and cranny in your house so that everyone will know that YOU. LOVE. FALL. Maybe that’s just me? Anyway, I’m always looking for fun ways to decorate pumpkins and this year I thought I’d make and add some trendy yarn tassels and painted wood beads! I love how they turned out! See how I made them below.
These are seriously addictive to make once you get going, so consider yourself warned on that. 🙂 Here is what you’ll need:
- Yarn
- scissors
- wood beads
- craft paint (if you want to paint your beads)
- A piece of cardboard cut to about 4.5 x 5 inches (bigger if you want bigger tassels)
How to Make Yarn Tassels
STEP ONE: Wrap yarn around your piece of cardboard (lengthwise) about 4o times. More if you want your tassel to be fuller.
STEP TWO: Take a long piece of yarn and tie it around the entire bunch of yarn (you need to thread it underneath the yarn and in between it and the piece of cardboard) to cinch the yarn at one end.
STEP THREE: At the opposite end, cut through all of the yarn.
STEP FOUR: Using the ends of the piece of yarn you threaded through and tied, PLUS one piece of yarn you have pulled up from the bunch of yarn pieces you now have, carefully braid the pieces together.
STEP FIVE: Take another long piece of yarn and tie it around the entire bunch near the top to create your tassel (see images above for clarity)
STEP SIX: Trim the bottom of the yarn tassel to make it even.
STEP SEVEN: Paint wood beads (if desired) and thread them onto the now braided piece at the top!
I attached the yarn tassels + wood beads to the base of the stem of my pumpkin using a straight pin.
I love that you can get totally different looks by using different yarns… nice and chunky or more fine. I love the orange yarn I found below!
