Today I thought we’d make some fun paper bag lanterns I saw in an old Martha Stewart entertaining book a long time ago. I’ve been thinking about doing a little “Welcome Summer” party with my kids on their last day of school. Nothing fancy but it will definitely involve the BBQ and some lemonade. I thought these would add the perfect festive touch for practically nothing and very little effort. Just what I was looking for!
Don’t you just love colorful paper bags? They are so versatile and can be embellished for all kinds of things. Plus they are only about $2.99 for 10 of them. The perfect price.
Here is a quick tutorial on how to make these paper bag lanterns:
This looks so festive! Great idea. Thanks for sharing!

my fiance and our roommate might object…

ok, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE YOUR BLOG! I have been checking out all the different things that you have posted and I want to try everything…this could take awhile. What do I try first????
really like the idea but I am pretty sure they can be made with colorful copy paper. start by gluing the short sides of the sheet together, then score the center, fold accordion style and punch holes at the top and bottom. same effect and much cheaper.
Such a nice idea for inexpensive centerpieces; thanks Landee!

Step three’s picture doesn’t really show what you mean; wish you’d been more specific.
Also, what did you use for lights? Surely not candles … Maybe battery-operated tea lights?
