I’m having fun putting together my St. Patrick’s Day decor this year! So glad gold is back with a vengence right now. It makes this holiday just that much more enjoyable to decorate around!
Today I am sharing a super easy Painted Burlap Banner that I made for my mantel. Lots of punch for little effort? Check!
Here’s what you’ll need to make one for yourself (or a friend!):
- gold polka dot burlap (found at Joann’s… it’s like $13/yard but you don’t need much and use a 40% coupon!)
- plain “natural” burlap
- green craft paint
- green yarn
- painter’s tape
- sponge brush
- scissors
STEP ONE: Cut 4 bunting triangles out of the gold polka dot burlap and 4 bunting triangles out of the natural burlap.
STEP TWO: Using painter’s tape, tape off stripes on the natural burlap triangles.
STEP THREE: Using your sponge brush, dab green paint onto burlap to create stripes. Allow to dry completely and remove painter’s tape carefully (burlap is surprisingly fragile sometimes).
STEP FOUR: Thread bunting triangles onto long piece of yarn (I punched holes in the corners with a hole punch first) and hang!
I’m guessing this took me about 30 minutes start to finish and cost about $7 to make. Love those kinds of projects! And it doesn’t get much more “St. Patrick’s Day” than this. Green & gold everywhere!
I’ll show you the rest of my mantel tomorrow… be sure to check back!
Really??? This is sooooo cute and you make it look soooo simple! We would like to feature it on our website, Rubyforwomen.com and link our readers back to you for instructions.
I’m definitely using the green striped bunting idea. I couldn’t find the gold polkadot burlap in any of the craft stores around me so I’m going to attempt to paint my own. It’s such a cute idea!
