Mason Jar Tissue Holder

June 4, 2015 109 Comments

Cut an X in the middle of the circle with an exacto knife.

Mason Jar Tissue Holder | landeelu.com Such a cute and easy way to have tissues in any room in the house!

Fold your tissues and put into mason jar.

Mason Jar Tissue Holder | landeelu.com Such a cute and easy way to have tissues in any room in the house!Feed a center tissue up through your X in your scrapbook paper, and screw on the lid ring.  Done!

Mason Jar Tissue Holder | landeelu.com Such a cute and easy way to have tissues in any room in the house!I decided to paint and distress my mason jar to make it a little more adorable and I gathered up some other mason jars I had around and quickly made a couple more.  So easy!  You can see how I made that DIY Mercury Glass jar here.  And I got that green jar already tinted that way as part of Ball Jar’s heritage collection.

Mason Jar Tissue Holders | landeelu.com Such a cute and easy way to have tissues in any room! And you can decorate the mason jar however you want to fit into any decor! So fun, right?  I love them!  I now have one in my bathroom, family room and kitchen, just like that!

**Update: After having these for a few months now, I would suggest laminating the scrapbook paper before cutting the X.  The paper seemed to tear after a while.  You could also just use packing tape on one or both sides to strengthen it a little!

I made these the other day, and used a wide mouth canning jar. The lid on the Kleenex canister tissues fits on the top of the wide mouth jar and then I just fed the Kleenex through the existing plastic that is on those lids.

I also bought 3 in wood discs and plan to paint a design on those, and just fed the Kleenex through a 1 inch hole I drilled in the wooden lid.

I am also going to try the frogs for flowers in a canning jar, but I just sent for them, but figure they will work too.

why promote a specific brand of tissues? well I get you are only looking at convenience. The Kleenex brand does not use sustainable forests to make their tissues. They don’t even replant. They are not being environmentally friendly, and well that matters to a few of us. Just thought you might like to know. Regardless, your idea is very cute. .

      Kathy,
Despite what snarky Theresa said, I appreciate knowing this about Kleenex. I’ll do a little more research on my own since I think the tissues in the cylinders would work best. These will make fabulous gifts for teachers, hostess gifts, etc. Personally, I DO thank you for making us aware. Anyone who is a crafter is generally a caring person. It’s important to me to make a positive impact on this world and not help contribute to something that will affect future generations.

I did look up the issue and it looks like Kimberly Clark (Kleenex) is now using sustainable methods.

I think I’m going to take designer duct tape put strips down on card stock then trace and cut the circle out and then cut the
X maybe that will make it sturdy

Another use would be moist wipes, lid would need to be done differently of course, seems to me they would stay moist longer in a jar and look much prettier.

I just checked and I have TWO tall wide mouth jars! Going to make one for my office desk and another for my car. (The regular boxes always get crushed and the cup holders are precious space.)

Also, I used the side of the box for the lid. That’s already sturdy cardboard. Later I might cover it with other paper to make it prettier.

Another bonus, it will be easy to see when I am running low.

    Love the idea. Thanks!

I just made one of these. I used plastic. ! I found a clear box that Christmas ornaments came in and recycled it. I cut a circle out of that and one out of scrapbook paper. I put the plastic one on top and then the paper one, cut the slices with an exacto knife so they are lined up. Works great! Much more sturdy than just paper.

Thanks for this tutorial! They are so functional!

I liked the idea of fabric for the top. You can get iron on lamination for fabric from Pellon called Matte Vinyl Fuse. I like to do both sides of the fabric . It’s wipe able and sturdier than paper. And you can use any print you want.

I love this idea! Since I have so much fabric, I’m thinking of making a giant buttonhole for the tissue. I like the look with fabric hanging around the outside of the lid like a little skirt. This would be something that could go in the washer to clean. Not everyone has a sewing machine but those that do could try this way.TFS

I use to use the round tissue boxes for the kitchen, but then I saw your post, I was so excited. I had a wide mouth mason jar and the chalk paint. My sister has a selection of paper that she gave me so I can change for the seasons. I am really not a “crafty” person, but it was so easy. To make the top a little sturdier, I used a cereal box but to size. I then used clear packing tape to keep the two layers together. I absolutely love it!

Going to try this. We have the proverbial church mouse, and when people need a tissue, it’s tainted or shredded. Even leaving the tissue box upside down doesn’t work. I’ll let you know.

Great idea!! I love to use mason jars too! But I make my round lids out of thin plastic cutting mats (those used for food) or thin plastic placemats, the kind that wipe clean and tend to use for kids. They are flexible, sturdy and come in a variety of colors and patterns. (I think the dollar store tends to carry the cutting mats.) I turn my mason jars into drink containers by using a hole punch to make a hole in the lid for a straw. Thanks for all your wonderful ideas!
