If you are looking for a fun Halloween food craft to do with kids (or anyone else for that matter!) I’ve got just the thing for you today! I saw this idea in the latest issue of Family Fun Magazine and just had to give it a try! It’s just easy enough for kids but also allows them to be creative… and best of all, they get to eat them when they’re done! Win-win as far as I’m concerned.
- Pretzels (I used yogurt covered and plain to mix it up)
- Vanilla candy melts (get various colors or get the new fancy chocolate tints I found at Hobby Lobby to make your own colors)
- Sprinkles… whatever ya got in your cupboard will be great!
- Dark Chocolate Candy Melts (optional)
- Sandwich baggies
- Parchment paper
STEP ONE: Melt your candy melts in the microwave according to package. I melted all of my white vanilla chocolates at one time and then divided it into small bowls. I then used the chocolate food coloring to tint to my liking! Have you ever used regular food coloring to do this? Cuz yeah, it doesn’t work. It’s bad… like really bad. So I was excited to find some specially formulated for chocolate! Now I don’t have to be constrained by what colors THEY want me to have. I’m now sticking it to the man, as it were.
STEP TWO: Lay pretzels out on sheet of parchment paper. Fill baggies with colored chocolate & then snip off a little corner of the baggie. Make sure you have a baggie of plain white too!
STEP FIVE: To make “mummy pretzels” just take your baggie of white chocolate and drizzle it over the pretzels like so…
After I was “done” I decided to melt some dark chocolate and fill in their cute little gaping mouths. This also led me to using plain plain pretzels and making different monsters by filling the eyes in dark and the mouth white. I know, I know… I totally got carried away. 🙂
STEP SIX: Allow it all to harden and then remove from parchment paper. Package up & distribute as you see fit (or eat them all, I don’t care)!
A super yummy & fun treat to make this Halloween!
