Imagine leaving everything you know for the possibility of a better life. Saving and working for 18 years to make it a reality. That’s exactly what Priscila did. It was her dream to bring her little family, husband Marcos and young son Adam, from Brazil to the United States. They spent months filing papers, she left her teaching job and he left his career and came with only with what they could fit in their luggage. With only days to find housing and not knowing the area, they rented an apartment very quickly only to discover that it was in an “undesirable” part of town. Police are constantly in and out of the complex, knocking on the neighbor’s door. Their small son isn’t safe playing outside.
We have found them an apartment in a great, family-friendly area. The landlords are willing to pay them the $2000 it will cost to get out of their lease if they clean and fix up the apartment. However, they will loose $1000 of their deposit. We are trying to raise $2000 to help them this Holiday Season! The money raised through this campaign will all go to finding furniture for the family and giving them a cozy “home for the holidays.”
Adam, such a sweet boy, looks forward to learning English. He loves it here in the U.S. You should have seen him at Halloween! He gazed in amazement at the festivities.
Isn’t it nice to give back? And especially around the holidays? Everyone deserves a safe place to call home and raise their children. I’m so excited to be a part of this.
I am a total homebody. I do like to travel but more often than not my favorite day is the day I’m heading back home. It makes sense, then, that my favorite place to be during the holidays is in my own home. We used to travel when our kids were tiny but the second we started wanting to give bikes and play kitchens we put an end to the holiday travel quickly. I love having our own traditions, our special treats and meals and, of course, our own Christmas decor that we pull out year after year that really says “Christmas” to us.
I haven’t spent a ton of time and energy on our front porch decor. I stick a couple of prelit trees in some pots and put a wreath on the door and that has been about it so far. I have been itching to make a big festive sign this year though. Something that will make our front step more welcoming and “home for the holidays” so to speak. So today I am sharing some of the inspiring front porch Christmas signs I have seen around the internet that I have loved! A lot of them are very doable too!
I think that “Snowmen For Sale” sign is so funny and adorable! Don’t be surprised if one just like it ends up in my yard this winter. 🙂
