Halloween Ribbon Wreath

October 4, 2012 41 Comments

Halloween Ribbon Wreath... so easy and cute!

I call this a “Halloween Ribbon Wreath” but that’s just because I made it for Halloween.  Using different ribbons would make it a fit for any holiday or decor!  Which is why I love it so.   And “easy” doesn’t even BEGIN to describe the level of difficulty here.  Can you cut ribbon?  Can you tie a knot?  This wreath is for you!

Supplies Needed:

  • A variety of ribbon from your ribbon stash or purchased at 50% off at Hobby Lobby (I swear it’s 50% off every other week).  Different widths, patterns, textures are the best.  The more variety the better!
  • A straw wreath

STEP ONE: Wrap your straw wreath one of your selected ribbons.  I chose solid black.  This keeps the straw from ruining all your fun with the inevitable “peek through.”

STEP TWO:  Cut pieces of ribbon and tie around wreath using your basic square knot!  I started with my wide ribbons first and then went back and filled in with the thinner ones.

STEP THREE:  Optional but I think it made a big difference… cut the ends of all your ribbons in a V.  This definitely gave it a more finished and festive look.

STEP FOUR:  Fluff and froof until you get it how you want it and hang it up!

Can’t you see this as a fun birthday wreath (not to upstage THIS ONE though!) or Christmas or Easter or, or, or…. you see where I’m going with this.  But I will say I am loving it in the orange and black!  Halloween decor makes me happy.

Make sure to PIN THIS IMAGE and go grab your supplies!

Why not do it for your favorite team colors when you have ‘tailgating’ at your house?

I can’t wait to try this myself. I will wait until I have my daughter’s room complete and make one to match her room’s decor. I could also see myself doing a cheetah/hot pink one. FUN!

Holy moses – I LOVE THIS!!!!I am going to make one almost immediately – well as soon as I can get to the craft store and get a wreath:):) I also envision making one using all the bits and pieces of ribbon that I love (and I have a TON of that) to have a pretty scrappy looking one also.

This is a really cute idea. I think I’m going to do one in my favorite SEC Colors….Burnt Orange & Navy Blue!!!

What length do you cut your ribbons?

I don’t really know the length I used! I cut a couple and made sure they could be tied around my wreath form and then used them as a “pattern” to cut the rest. Great idea making one for your favorite team!!

Just wondering if it makes a difference whether the ribbon is regular non wired or can it be with the wire?

It can be wired or not wired! The nice thing about wired is that then you can shape the ends of the ribbons how you want them and they will stay. Have fun making your wreath!

This is cute. How many rolls of ribbon did you buy? How long did you cut the ribbon before you tied it around the wreath?

Why doesn’t she answer this question?? It’s been asked 3 times! Prob cause the amount of ribbon needed is costly!

Hi Sharon! I actually didn’t keep track of the exact number of rolls I used because a) I was using partial rolls that I had on hand as well as new ones and b) it will be completely different for everyone because it depends on the look you want! Some will want it fuller and some will like it a little more sparse looking. It also totally depends on the various widths of the ribbons you use. It’s an impossible question to answer but the wreath is very fun to make so enjoy the process!

I made a Valentine wreath just today. Including the foam wreath form (with coupon) and 9 rolls of ribbon (50% off), I spent about $20. I filled in with some tulle that I already had but also have ribbon left on almost all of the rolls. It certainly depends on the width of your ribbon (mine varied between 7/8″ and 1 1/2″) and the size of your wreath (mine was 12″).
