So first, let me remind you of our floor plan that I came up with using the LivingRoom app found in the App Store. I was very happy that we pretty much stuck to my plan! The guest room door needed to be closer to the outside wall due to a support pole so the guest room closet isn’t that large and there are no built in cupboards there along the wall outside of the guest room, but other than that this is the floor plan!
A Finished Basement: The Family Room
Let’s start with a view looking into the family room. We are lucky enough to have a walk out basement which allows lots of natural light in. The back wall is basically windows and a sliding glass door which is amazing for light.
Before the drywalling happened, we had our contractor run speaker wires up to where our surround speakers would go as well as to where we figured the front speakers would go. And notice there are no cords hanging down from the TV into the media console? We also had him install a PVC pipe, pre-drywall, that we could run all the cords through from the TV down. Not a new trick but definitely one worth doing! You can see that in more detail in this post.
I am still GIDDY about how the fireplace I sketched up for my contractor turned out! I took these pictures when my Christmas decor was still on the mantel. Please to ignore. 🙂 But look at those marble tiles and shelves and planking! The shelves need a little styling love but all in due time, right?

I ordered those bottom glass cabinets from HomeDepot.com for a fraction of the cost that their “kitchen design center” wanted and then the upper cabinets and mantel were all built by my contractor for a seamless finish. And yes, that fireplace is two-sided and the other side is in the guest room. My favorite feature!
