Hello & Welcome to Landeelu.com!
I’m so glad you’re here… are you finishing your basement too? Thinking about it? In the middle of it? We recently did and lived to tell the tale! It’s a big undertaking but I learned so much about the process and am excited to share it with you.
A while back I posted all about how we were finishing our basement. When I posted it we had just gotten the dry wall in and things were clicking along! Well, that was months ago now and I think it’s about time I updated you on how it all looks now! Finishing a basement takes patience, flexibility and more patience. With a pinch of patience. While things are “done” down there now, they are faaaaaar from DONE, if you know what I mean. I now have a hundred more things to decorate and fiddle with (which I couldn’t be happier about)! I was waiting to post this until I was DONE DONE but then realized that is literally NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. So here it all is as it stands today.
I still have pictures to hang, shelves to put up, hooks to install, details upon details upon details. But we already love it and someone in the family hangs out down there every single day. It has been a fantastic addition to our home.
This post isn’t a how-to post on the finish work of construction, but rather I thought it might give you some ideas if you were thinking about finishing your basement at some point. I learned a lot about the process (refresh your memory of what our basement used to be HERE) and am very happy with a lot of the decisions we made. I’ll share some of my cost cutting tips as well.
I just wanted to say that I absolutely hate that green sidebar on the left with all the social media icons! It covers part of the words and is so annoying that I don’t want to bother reading the rest of your blog. If you could move your wording over just a little it would be soooo much better. I had an ecommerce website for years, and I would have wanted to know if something like this kept people away from my site. And just in case it matters I’m using Chrome.
Anita
Thanks for letting me know Anita! I’ll look into that.
Read on a bigger device or flip it to landscape or read from a standard computer and it reads just fine.
Landee!!!! I am DYING!!! Will you PLEASE come do my basement?! It’s gorgeous! I love everything about it, but especially the fire place! Also, I found this post via your newsletter – I just want you to know how much I love it! 🙂
xo,
Camille
Oh my goodness you’re the nicest! Thanks Camille!
I’m in the middle of a carpet decision too and googled the Gorrono Ranch Victorian and your post came up. I’m so glad to see the carpet there. I am still pretty undecided but it looks so gorgeous in your basement. I’m leaning toward either Victorian, Peaceful or Vintage which is a silvery gray but so hard to decide. Anyway just wanted to let you know that it looks gorgeous! 🙂
Oh yay! Yes, we love Victorian but what I really love is how plush and soft it is on bare feet. I was not expecting it to be so nice! Plus you can’t beat Life Proof! Good luck on your decision!
Where did you get your couch?
Hi Mindy!
It was a custom ordered couch from a store called Wow Furniture. We could pick the arm style, the configuration and the fabric. Because it was a narrow but long space we needed to go custom! Thanks for stopping by!
I’m in the denver area and would love to get the number of your contractor. Would you mind sending it to me? Thx!
Hi Katie! I’ll send you an email. Thanks!
Where did you get your couch pillows? Love em!
They are a mix but mostly from Caitlin Wilson and Minted!
Wow! Your space turned out great! We are at the drywall phase of our basement finish so reading your posts are a big help in preparing me for the next steps. At the moment, I’m trying to find a good bar fridge. So many are glass front, but noticed you went with a stainless door. May I ask what brand you installed and how you like it. Thanks for the feedback!
Love it! Love it!
I must confess this is over delivering.
I was carefully waiting to see the final look before I comment.
You rock! like a boss Landee.
Thanks for keeping to your promise and posting the finished project.
Simply gorgeous Landee!
I am going to steal a lot of your ideas for our basement refinish right down to the same tiles and color scheme!
We are south of DC and our estimates around here were in the $40K range, but we are not including a spare bedroom. You’ve now got me thinking about a fireplace and kitchenette!
I may have missed it, but I am wondering what fireplace it was that you used.
We’re in the initial planning stages of finishing our basement and google brought me to your blog. I’m definitely keeping a few of your ideas in mind! May I ask what the square footage of your finished space is? Thanks!
I think the finished area is about 1200 square feet and we left 300 unfinished for storage. Good luck with the project! It’s the best thing we’ve ever done!
We are moving to Aurora and would love to finish our basement. I would love to get the contractors contact information.
Your blog posts have been incredibly helpful. We are just at the quoting stage of our basement project and I’m loving the tips here! I’m tempted to go dark on the doors too! Thanks to Pinecrest from bringing me to your blog!
