If you’re looking for an easy way to spruce up a plain bulletin board read on! See how I changed a blah brown cork board into a custom Monogram Bulletin Board with just some paint and a little time!
Recently, Brynn (my 9 yo daughter) and I decided to change up the colors in her room a bit. We were going down a path of turquoise, yellow and grey and we just weren’t loving it. It was cute but we were thinking it needed a little more….oomph. Just a bit more ba-da-bing! you know? Turquoise is her favorite color and grey was already on the walls so those two colors were staying. We decided to try a little coral and LOVED it! I put it up to a vote on Instagram (@landeelu) and you all loved the coral and a few suggested adding in a bit of navy… perfection! We now love the coral, navy, turquoise and grey color combination and are moving ahead on completing her room! One of the projects I had already done when we were going with the yellow was a little bulletin board over near Brynn’s desk area. It was so cute but now, sadly, it has to go. I was excited for another little bulletin board project though! They are so cheap and easy to transform! So here is what I did, just using some paint!
I got a largish bulletin board from Hobby Lobby (with my 40% off coupon it was around $8). Then I painted the entire thing white using regular ol’ craft paint. I let this dry completely.
Then I designed a little monogram with my vinyl cutter program (just a circle with a Times New Roman “B” in the middle… nothing fancy!) to use as a stencil. I also used painter’s tape and taped off some stripes (those small pieces of tape were to remind me that I wanted turquoise there… I was worried I’d forget!). You can do this in whatever pattern you like! Diagonal stripes would be fun too!
Then I simply painted the areas I wanted with craft paint in colors that matched her new decor! I was worried that with the texture of the bulletin board some of the paint might easily seep under but it totally didn’t! The painter’s tape and vinyl came off clean as a whistle.
Then I just hung it up using Command Strips. Love those things!
And, as you can see, it goes great with her new room colors. This was such a fun DIY because I would venture to say it would be pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to find a bulletin board in these exact colors with a B on it! Totally customized just for her. 🙂
This was a great DIY project that anyone can do! If you don’t have a vinyl cutter (or a friend with a vinyl cutter :)) you can always contact me in my Etsy shop for a custom monogram stencil. I am here for you! ha!
