Make this quick DIY Valentine’s Day sign for the holiday or for all year long!
You might already know that I have a thing with making signs for holidays. It’s just so fun to take some wood, add some paint and have something custom that is EXACTLY what I want it to be! Not to mention it is much much much less expensive than buying one as well. The upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday is no exception for my DIY sign obsession. I wanted to create my Valentine’s Day mantel using blush pinks, gold and white and needed a Valentine’s Day sign to with it.
I also have a fairly out-of-control obsession with these 17″ wood rounds you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes. They are like $12 and a perfect canvas for creating whatever you want. So I went and got another one and set to work designing something for an awesome DIY Valentine’s Day sign. You can see other things I’ve made on these rounds HERE and HERE.
If you want to make one, here is what you’ll need and what you’ll need to do (affiliate links below for your convenience):
- Wood round
- craft paint (get the perfect color for your project!) . I used Cameo Blush by Folk Art.
- Gold Spray paint
- LOVE stencil (use a vinyl cutter of your own or I’ve added this in my Etsy shop for purchase HERE) Font is called Hello Sunshine.
STEP ONE: Paint wood round desired color with craft paint. Allow to dry.
STEP TWO: Apply stencil and burnish down to avoid bleeding. Apply several light coats for best coverage.
STEP THREE: Allow spray paint to dry and then remove stencil carefully.
DONE!
It was a really quick sign to make and I love its addition to my Valentine’s Day mantel this year! You can see the rest of my mantel decor HERE!

I love it! Can’t wait to see the rest of your mantle tomorrow!
I’m ready to go the craft store right now and get stuff to make this….but I’m dying to see the rest of your mantle so I can get some more ideas!
Valentine’s Day is coming and again I have to think of some creative ideas to say I love you to my girlfriend. Maybe, someone can share a positive experience?
I love this project! Your mantle is beautiful. I have a Silhouette Cameo, but have never cut a stencil bigger than 12″ wide. Will you share how you were able to cut the stencil the size of the round wooden piece? Thank you, for the inspiration!
This is so pretty! What font did you use?
It says the font is Hello Sunshine
This is really fab, I want to go and make one now, lol.
I love you choice of colour which is so ‘on trend’ here at the moment in the Nederlands.
I have done a bit of stencilling before using just a printout on photographic paper and a craft knife, this is is ok if you have the time and the patience to carefully cut the word / image out.
Although I don’t think that would look quite so effective as yours does, I think the lovely font that you have used and that is half the charm ;o)
This is adorable. I bought all the stuff and got it painted and all and then saw you didn’t give detailed instructions on what font or how you made the stencil sticker. 🙁 oh Ya and fthe round was 15″ not 17 at lowes. So that would make a difference. But I haven’t made a stencil bigger than 12×12 on my silhouette so I was hoping for more instructions. I spent 31/2 hours trying to pick my font and figure out how to do this on my silhouette. ? I’m still not done. I’m just doing it as a 12×12 hope it works or that maybe you could post more detailed instructions.
Thanks
It says the font is Hello Sunshine and includes the link to purchase it.
Great sign and one that could work year round!
Can you explain how to burnish down the stencil?
What star do you live in? I went to lowes and Home Depot here in California and the wood circles are $17.99 for 17 inch and $12.99 for 12 inch was disappointed in the price
Hi Elaine! I live in Colorado and they are seriously like $9 here! What the heck? I haven’t bought one in a while though so maybe they increased the price? Bummer!
I live in North Carolina and Lowe’s has a 18 inch for $ 9.00
I called our home depot and they said they don’t have any round pieces of wood, what department did you get it in ? I’d love to make one of these.
Hi Jodi… they are back in the lumber area at my Home Depot. I think, depending on the size, they are meant to be small table tops or lazy susans. Bummer if yours doesn’t carry them!
Hi, Lowe’s has them in 17 in but they are 15.00
Thanks for getting good back to me
Hi! I love this sign but like some of the other comments I do not know how to cute the stencil on a silhouette cameo larger than a 12×12? I would REALLY appreciate some help. Thank you in advance!
How do you burnish a stecil?
Nevermind my question..I found your 4th of July sign that explained it 🙂
I bought the ‘Love’ stencil. Made it and it turned out so cute! Is there an easy way to save the stencil or do you have a hard plastic version of this?
Thank you!
Carol
Good morning! Oh my goodness… that is an adorable sign! I love that it looks quick and easy… it will make the perfect addition to my daughter’s bedroom decor. Thanks for the tutorial!
Cheers,

adorable could you explain what burnish the stencil means?
Love this so much!! Stunning pastel sign!
Love this. One of these days I’m going to get around to making it. Such a cute idea, I just had to share on my Facebook page too.
Oh thank you for sharing!
