So, I recently painted some huge gray and white stripes in my kitchen. I’m officially in love and I kick myself at least once a day for not doing it sooner.
Of course that meant that a certain clock which I looked at at least 1,000 times a day no longer went with my new chic decor. The Decorating Snowball Effect was set into motion and the clock got a whole new look. I originally made this clock at a Super Saturday at my church. It is basically an MDF round which was routed out in the back to hold the clock mechanism. I’ve seen the rounds for sale in craft stores for about $19.99? Maybe less… I can’t remember.
Here is what it looked like before. Not to mention the boring walls.
I then glazed it using the same technique as the family frame I made for my SIL. Wipe on…wipe off, Daniel-san. I wiped it off in a circular pattern to give it some depth. It’s subtle but I like it much better than a flat color.
I then painted the routed edge white.
I cut everything using my Silhouette SD. The shapes I used were:
- scallop artisan shapes
- 1 piece circle frame
- frame (seriously, that’s what it’s called…?)
- decorative oval frame
- ‘families are forever’ circle
Ah, but we’re not QUITE done…. (P.S. Did you know 10:10 is supposedly the most “pleasing to the eye” time? If you look at clocks in magazines and catalogs they are almost always set to 10:10… weird, huh?)
Next I printed off some of my favorite pictures onto cardstock, punched them out with my 2″ circle punch and taped them on to the blanks. I figured that was the easiest way to make it so I can switch out the pictures whenever I wanted.
I added pictures from when my kids were babies. Some recent photos. And one from when the husband and I got hitched…. (wait, see? Now it’s 10:13 and that clock is hideous! 🙂
We now refer to the time as something like “Hurry! We are late! It’s already Big Jack:Baby Tanner o’clock!” Of course then it takes us a few minutes to figure out what time that really is as we search for the pictures and we are even later. But it’s totally worth it.
That’s 8:20 in case you were curious.
Great clock!! It reminds me of the Harry Potter clock in the Weasley’s house that says what each person is doing…that would be cool!
That is completely fabulous!

I love the idea of using family photos as the numbers. It looks great!
Gorgeous clock! And you make it look so easy! And PS: 10:10 is my favorite time because it reminds me of God’s promise in John 10:10. 🙂
I’m continually amazed! Cutest idea ever. And your delivery is the best. I hang on EVERY word. Thanks for the fun morning read.
That is just gorgeous! Love the pics and that fantastic pop of color!

Maybe you should make a clock like that in your guest room and then rotate in photos of the people coming to visit. And then they can take it home with them as a parting gift!! Isn’t that a great idea?
PS See you tomorrow night.
Wow, this is one of the greatest projects I’ve ever seen. So creative and so fun. Amazing job and thank you so much for using Rust-Oleum.
what a great idea! Love your creativity – just joined your FB page – and am excited to read more posts!
A-maz-ing! Our brains run in completely opposite directions! I am so impressed!!!
What a good idea. It reminds me of the Weasley’s clock that tells the location of everyone instead of the time. Can you make one of those?

I love that. Not only is it beautiful and sentimental but it’s so elegant looking. Great job!
What a wonderful idea, to tell time with faces! I bet small children struggling to learn how to tell time would love this…or would it confuse them? No matter, I’m eyeing a boring old clock. Thanks for the idea.

Landee… you are one of the most original, creative bloggers out there. I love EVERY project you do – that clock is so awesome!
Hi! My friend wants me to make this for her. I found the Families are forever , but I was wondering if you could tell me the names of the other vinyl cutouts so I can find them easier. I would really appreciate it!
Thanks
Debi
Where did you find the frames???
Hi, I was wondering where you got the silhouette white stickers to border the numbers and photos. Was it from a website or a shop? I would love it if you would answer as soon as possible, as I am about to start one of my own and love the frames!
Thanks,
Tess
Sorry I realise now that you used a machine, however do you have any other ideas which I could do to get the same sort of frames without the machine?
Thanks,
Tess
