What makes a room interesting. You see a room in a magazine. It is neutral. Simplistic. Clean. Why are you so drawn to it? We know!
That simple, clean, simplistic room is more than likely packed full of texture. Every room needs texture, but many people get overwhelmed when it comes to adding texture into your space. We are excited to be offering a few of our interior design tips to you today to help get you started!
GO BIG or GO TONAL
A bold color is not required to create a stunning space….Texture is! Tonal variation adds a lot of textural interest to a room. We like to pick 2-3 shades from a color family and use them repeatedly throughout the space. Using differing tones of paint, furniture and accessories is one of the easiest ways to achieve a beautifully layered space full of texture.
MIX + MATCH FABRICS
Layering is a huge part of interior design. Did you catch that? Let us say it again. Layering is a huge part of interior design. We like to mix up the fabrics in our spaces. Who says all 3 throw pillows need to be the same? Why not have a herringbone, tweed and leather throw pillow. The options are limitless. Doing this will make the space uniquely yours. And, isn’t that what we all really want?
UNDERFOOT MATTERS
Most of us agree that wood flooring is a beautiful base to any room. Like we said before layering is a huge part of interior design. This is just as true when it comes to the flooring options. A rug will instantly define your room and add texture. Ever feel like your room is floating? Your room needs to be grounded (no, not like your children). By simply adding an organic looking wool rug, you will be amazed how welcoming and cozy your space becomes.
LET THE WALLS TALK
The days of Home Interior parties are gone! (And we think that is a good thing). There is no need to only have tidy framed artwork on you walls. And everything doesn’t need to be symmetrical. Let your wall art be interesting. Three dimensional art is something we add to every space we design. Why? Because layering is a huge part of design. Walls should have a mix of woods and metals to match the rest of the space.
Gallery walls are also very popular right now. Create a gallery wall that is grid like, or one that is abstract. Either way it will add texture, no doubt. However you decide to add texture to your home we encourage you to Be bold, Be Brave…
