Guess what is coming up here in the next few weeks? That’s right, the 4th of July! I love to switch out my mantel decor for each holiday. I won’t do the whole house (except for Christmas) but the mantel gets a make over every few weeks, it seems. And the 4th of July is such a fun one to decorate for too. Bold colors, patriotic, stars and stripes… what’s not to love? This year my inspiration came from a pile of sticks we have in our backyard from cutting down a few dead trees. Intrigued? 🙂
DIY 4th of July Fireworks Mantel
I had been thinking there has GOT to be something I could do with this giant pile of sticks but they had been there for a few months (don’t judge) and nothing was coming to mind. Then when I was thinking about my upcoming 4th of July mantel it came to me…. spray paint them and make them look like fireworks! You know, the Roman Candle looking ones. They were always my favorite kind of fireworks anyway. Pretty and fun but not dangerous. I’m a complete scaredy cat when it comes to semi-dangerous fireworks. So Roman Candles are perfect for me. And why not fill up my mantel with sticks that look like them, am I right?
So, as far as tutorials go, you basically just need a bunch of sticks, some red, white & blue spray paint, a drop cloth, mason jars (or other containers to hold the sticks) and some ribbon (optional).
Next, divide your sticks into even groups, decide what colors you want them, and spray paint them! The nice thing is that spray painting sticks doesn’t require you to be careful or anything so I let my 10 year old daughter do some and she was thrilled for the chance to spray paint something!
Then put them in your mason jars/containers (I used the larger pint sized ones), tie a ribbon around the top and you’re all set!
