The 4th of July is such a fun holiday! It usually means a laid back weekend, fireworks and spending time with family and friends while BBQing and sitting around on lawn chairs. All in the name of celebrating our freedom to do so, of course. 🙂 I also love to DECORATE for the 4th of July as well! You can go any direction… sparkly and glitzy, straight up Americana or simply use the colors red, white and blue somehow. I always love dreaming up how to do my patriotic mantel each year and I’m super happy with how it all came together this year! I used the same basic layout as my Easter mantel and just switched out the elements. No need to completely reinvent the wheel, right?
I created the two printables that were my foundation and then built all of the rest around those. You can download the Star in two sizes here (16×20 and 8×10) and the red gingham in 8×10 here. I just framed them up and propped them on the mantel. Easy! I also found more of those thin wooden letters (at Hobby Lobby in the scrapbooking area) and painted them for my AMERICA banner. A little hot glue and some twine and that was all finished as well.
I do love my little birdhouse and wasn’t quite ready to take that off the mantel yet so I just gave it a little patriotic makeover! Using red, white and blue scrapbook paper I made the teensiest bunting ever! Eek! I love it so much. It was a good reminder to use what I have but to simply embellish it a little differently to make it work. Project=free which=awesome.
I also already shared with you how I made that Land that I Love sign last week and you can see that full post HERE.
And, you may already be able to tell, but these red peony looking flowers are from a very old faux arrangement I’ve had for YEARS (I really think, like 10 years now). The vase they were stuck in was broken and the whole thing was not looking that great. They needed a new lease on life. So, I yanked out the flowers but they only had about a 1″ stem because they were stuck into some styrofoam. Sooooooo… I may have painted some wood skewers green and then scotch taped these flowers to the top. Ha! They wouldn’t stay in my adorable jar with the rope handle (from Hobby Lobby) if I didn’t do that! So yeah, classic case of making it work.
I’m happy with how it all came together and I’m feeling very summery and festive now! I might make a couple of things for the front porch and call it good. Do you go all out for the 4th of July? Or maybe just stick an American flag in a potted flower pot? 🙂
