I love a good Valentine’s Day craft and this might be one of my favorites I’ve ever made! Last year I made this painted Valentine’s Day sign and it was a big hit on my mantel so I thought I’d do a little “remix” this year… STRIPES! Stripes make everything cuter, right? I think so too. If you want to make one of these yourself, see the easy steps below!
SUPPLIES NEEDED (some links may be affiliate links. See full disclosure here):
- Wood Round (I got the 17″ one from Lowes)
- Painter’s Tape (I used the 2″ wide size)
- Craft Paint (I used white and Folk Art’s Cameo Blush)
- Gold Spray Paint (I used this kind)
- LOVE Stencil (create one on your own Silhouette or Cricut machine or purchase one in my Etsy Shop HERE) Font for the word LOVE is called Hello Sunshine and the long swash on the L is from this font set called Hello Beautiful.
Valentine’s Day Craft: Striped Painted Round LOVE Sign
STEPS 1,2 & 3: Paint wood round white and allow to dry. Then evenly apply painter’s tape to create stripes. Paint the pink paint and remove the painter’s tape while still wet. Touch up as needed. Allow to dry completely.
STEP 4: Remove backing from stencil, making sure the vinyl remains adhered to the transfer tape.
STEP 5: Carefully place vinyl/transfer tape onto painted wood round. Burnish it down onto wood by rubbing edge of credit card or similar object all over transfer tape. This will help the vinyl stencil adhere well to the surface and help prevent any bleeding of paint later.
STEPS 6 & 7: Carefully remove transfer tape while making sure the vinyl remains adhered to surface.
STEP 8: Spray paint stencil (and edges of wood, if desired) with gold spray paint. Carefully remove stencil while still partially wet (this prevents any peeling of spray paint when removing stencil). You might need to use small tweezers to remove the small parts of stencil. Allow to dry completely.
**NOTE: If making your own stencil with your Silhouette or Cameo you may not be able to cut your stencil 17″ across. Just make your stencil as large as you can and then use paper or painter’s tape to mask off the rest of your sign when spray painting.
Not too shabby, eh? And not that hard either! Such a fun Valentine’s Day craft that you will love to make! I can’t wait to get the rest of my Valentine’s Day mantel pulled together with this as the focal point!
