Simple Wood Wreath

I love over-the-top Christmas decor as much as the next  blogger, but sometimes I just want a simple, classy and visually clean decoration that still says “Hi Christmas!”   To achieve this I decided to apply the same idea as I did to my Shaker Style Trees to make a simple wood wreath.  I love the end result and am sharing it with you today!

Simple Wood Wreath

Here is what you’ll need to make one yourself:

Simple Wood Wreath--easy and cute

  • straw wreath form
  • wide ribbon of choice
  • dollhouse shingles
  • spray paint of choice (I used Shimmer Metallic Red from Krylon)
  • hot glue gun & glue sticks
  • fake snow (optional…so optional, in fact, that I didn’t even end up using it!  Still think it’d be cute on it though!)

The process is easy but takes a little time.

STEP ONE: Cover your wreath form with your ribbon.  This gives your hot glue something to stick to.

STEP TWO: Start hot gluing shingle pieces onto wreath, one row at a time.  Overlap and stagger shingles as you go.

After you have completely covered wreath you might want to leave it as is for a more “woodsy” (pun intended) feel!

STEP THREE: Spray paint as desired!

I chose to hang it with just a wide ribbon but you could embellish this thing up and down if you wanted!   I think it would be gorgeous in silver or gold too!

The nice thing about those shingles are they are extremely light-weight so the wreath isn’t heavy at all (which was something I was worried about).

I’m loving crafting for Christmas this year!  I’m making ornaments like a crazy person.  Check back next week to see!

I am so in love with this wreath! And I love the spring update you did with it in green. How many packs of the shingles did you use? I definitely want to make one!

Thank you so much! I think I didn’t even use one pack. I was shocked at how far they went! It will depend on how big your wreath is, however. Mine was an 18″ wreath so you would need even less for a cute 14″ wreath. :)
