I have been wanting to try my hand at some DIY pedestals for a long time and I finally decided to give it a go this Halloween season. I had several things that I wanted to display and needed to create different heights for so I was finally pushed to do it! It was so easy, you guys! I will probably be making more in the future and/or revamping these for various holidays and needs.
Supplies Needed: 4×4 cut to various lengths (mine are 5, 8 and 11 inches), wood plaques found at your local craft store (the wood ones are from Hobby Lobby, the white are from Michaels), wood glue, paintable caulk, paint (if desired).
STEP ONE: Using the wood glue, glue the wooden plaques to the tops & bottoms of 4x4s. Center the 4x4s on the plaques as best you can. Place a stack of heavy books on top and let dry overnight.
STEP TWO: Run a line of caulk where the 4×4 meets the plaque (top & bottom) and smooth with your finger you have dipped in water. Allow to dry.
STEP THREE: Paint as desired!
Totally easy! I painted mine plain white for now but am guessing I’ll change that up as I need these for different occasions throughout the years. I contemplated white & orange stripes for the Halloween season but then decided to keep them simple.
I love them for displaying things & creating visual interest. I started out using them on my kitchen table (above) and then moved them to my Halloween mantel for this year (see HERE). I’m having a hard time deciding because I love them in both places so much!
I’m so glad I finally gave these DIY pedestals a shot….easy and so useful!
