For the past few days I've been working on putting together my Easter mantel. I sort of settled on a color scheme and overall style and then realized I needed some cute Easter eggs to go along with it all.
I love the cute jute wrapped Easter eggs I've been seeing but that really isn't the look I was going for this year. So I decided to apply the same principle only using baker's twine instead!
Here is a quick tutorial on how I made them:
1. Pick a cheap plastic Easter egg in a similar color as your baker's twine. The egg will inevitably show through in places so it's best to have them close.
2. Hot glue the end of your baker's twine to one end of the egg. Allow to dry.
3. Apply mod podge part-way down the egg and begin wrapping the baker's twine. No need to pull it super tight. Some close-yet-loose winding will do the trick.
4. Continue mod podging and wrapping until you reach the point where the egg begins to taper again.
5. After a few frustrating attempts at wrapping the egg continuously from one end to the other, I began to realize it is almost impossible to keep the twine close and even when going from the fatter part of the egg to the skinnier. It works like a charm from skinny to fat, but vice versa? Fuggetaboutit. I finally figured out that I needed to just cut the twine mid-way down the egg and begin again from the other end.
6. Mod podge and wrap until you meet the other half of your wrapped twine, trim it off and snuggle it down in there. After taking this photo I adjusted the twine a little to make the gaps less noticeable.
7. Repeat with desired colors and end up with a basket full of baker's twine cuteness!

Without making myself sound like an idiot....where can we pick up that twine. I've been wanting to get some and never seem to come across it.
psssst. love the eggs! thanks for sharing.
You can find the twine here...http://www.thetwinery.com/
Super cute! And duh! I can't believe I didn't think to go from either end of the egg...I've done this with circles/balls and get so frustrated! Now I know how to make it easier :) thanks!
These are adorable!! Would love it if you would link them up at my turquoise lovin' party!! http://www.sweetlittlegals.com
Really cute! :-)
ADORABLE! yes ma'am!
I also worked on some eggs this weekend too & after a few figured out this way was best. I used several types of yarn to cover mine but yours look gorgeous!
Adorable!!!!!!!!!!!
The choice of twine was a good one, your eggs look great. I used yarn and just wrapped like crazy. I think I need some mod podge-- I've seen it used in a ton of projects lately. Is it just a type of craft glue? I'm sure I'll find it at JoAnn's or Michaels. Thanks for sharing your idea!
LOVE!

Love it! Thanks for a great tip on going from skinny to fat and then starting over the other way!! Plus the ModPodge is a great tip. I wouldn't have though to do plastic eggs. Love this!

So creative!
Great idea! A great way to save money on baker's twine is to use a twist cotton yarn (I think it's sugar n creme). Got mine on sale (and with teacher's discount) for $1/ball. More yarn, less money. These eggs are so adorable - going to have to give them a go!
What an awesome idea! I have the materials already and am so excited to give this a try. Thanks for the great tutorial. If you have a chance I'd love for you to link this up on my Destination: Inspiration linky party going on now at Teagan's Travels!

About how many yards of twine would I need for 1? I see it is sold in sampler packs of 15 yds. Is that enough for 1 egg?
Those are amazing!! Love it! I might have to try that next year ;)
