She claimed it was because it "wasn't fair" that she was the only one who had to sleep alone at night (the boys share a room, Mom & Dad share a room. It makes sense, I guess) but the reality was she would get scared. She would rather sleep on a hard floor with her brothers than in a comfy bed all alone.
Lately she has started sleeping in her own bed but insists that her closet light stay on all night. The few times that I have gone in and turned the closet light off after she has fallen asleep have inevitably led to her showing up at my bedside at 3am asking if she can sleep in my bed because she had a bad dream. So yeah, apparently a little light OR her brothers' snoring keeps bad dreams away.
Fine. Then let's at least make a nightlight that is adorable, right?
{Note: I had repinned this idea from someone a while ago labeled as a "wedding decor idea" but as I went back for instructions the link went nowhere. The photo was watermarked diyordont.blogspot.com but as I searched that site I couldn't find it! So I made up how I figured it was made.}
Supplies needed:
A 35 count strand of white Christmas lights
Tissue paper or crepe paper
Hot glue gun
I had this folded crepe paper left from when I ordered it to make a bunch of crepe paper flowers from Martha Stewart's latest craft book. That was an epic craft FAIL, by the way. They are ridiculously hard to make! So I was glad to use it for this project. It says on the package "flame resistant" which is good news. If you use tissue paper do so at your own risk! I can't imagine a fire issue with these but you never know.
Anyway, I chose the colors that went best with my daughter's bedding (below).
Here are my step-by-step instructions for this project. After gathering all supplies it took me about an hour to complete.
I then hung the strand up with clear tape from her curtain rod. I ran the cord down behind the long curtain to the plug and used a timer so the lights will turn on automatically at about 7pm and off at 5am.
It is the PERFECT amount of light. And it's like a cool party atmosphere in her room every night.
After gathering the supplies this took me about an hour to complete. I'm thinking these might be fun for a future teen birthday party, wedding reception, baby's room, romantic dinner for two, funky Christmas decor, etc. Just switch out the colors of the paper and it will totally change the look!

Love the lights!!
I had two brothers who shared a room and I'm not even kidding when I say I still snuck in their room to sleep on the floor when I was in middle school. I hated sleeping by myself in my room! lol
These are beautiful! You can also try Monster Spray. A little lavendar and water in a spray bottle decorated with Monsters that says "Monster Spray." Keeps all the scary things at bay =)
This is a lovely idea :)
How cute!! Easy & cheapo! Thanks for sharing! {Im pinning this} (:
I hate when a pin goes nowhere on Pinterest, and then I try to find the blog and it doesn't exist! Glad you figured out how to make these, they are so cute!
That looks great! I'm glad you figured out something for your little girl. I'm sure she will sleep in her own room now!
ADORABLE... I have 2 grandsons that may want that . Guess i would use darker colors and maybe not flowers....
How cute!! Your poor sweet girl, my heart went out to her reading her story. She deserves a beautiful night light!

Great Tutorial! :)
Great idea!!
Oh my gosh, this is just adorable...like you said! Lovely, really!
what a pretty room. And the lights are a great idea. My son hates the dark an he has to sleep with a night light right on his night stand.
I just love how pretty these look. And we all have those materials at home. Pinning this to try. I am a new Pinterest follower visiting from Tatertots and Jello. Vicky from Mess For Less
1. I totally agree, those stupid crepe paper flowers are impossible!! they always rip!!
2. That nightlight is just the cutest thing!!!
Where did you find the lights this time of year?? Or did you pull your Christmas stuff down and dig some out? I need to know. Kthanks...
Can you tell me where you got your crepe paper from? I would love to do this for my 3 yr old she is always begging to leave the light on in the room, hall, closet,(if its close she wants it on) but I would like to get some that is flame resistant also.
Hi Sassy Cassie! I actually ordered it from here: http://paperflowerweddings.com/
Super affordable and fun!
Love it! I also totally love your daughter's bedding! Where did you get it? I'm in the process of giving my girl's room a makeover. Thanks!
Love this, it is totally darling.
my college girls will LOVE these in there dorm rooms! Thanks for the super cute idea!
I just did this for a wedding shower, used those clear little hair bands instead of the hot glue (messy for me). Ordered the crepe paper from a company on line, paper flower weddings. Quick easy cheap. Also found 100 count lights at hobby lobby. Thanks for the great idea!!!!
