Valentine's Day Mantel

Valentine's Day mantel complete!  And I'm thinking it's pretty dang cute and festive.  I decided to go reds and browns this year.  Pink home decor isn't really sitting well with me right now.

So I made the burlap bunting a little while ago.  You can see the tutorial for that HERE.

And I'm not really one to have gigantic wedding photos around but I got one out and dusted it off for the holiday of love.  I think I just heard a collective sigh from all of you.  I know. I know.  We were adorable.  We will have been married 16 years in April!   April 26th actually, if you want to send an e-card or something.    That was way back when I hadn't realized my forehead was actually a fivehead (and in need of some bangs) and the eyebrow tweezers and I hadn't gotten acquainted.  Thank goodness he married me anyway!

I had pinned that gushy/cheesy/I-love-it-so-much-it-hurts saying a while ago and knew I wanted to make a board with it on it for the mantel.  ::single tear::  Who knew I could be so tender? Our love story really is my favorite.  :)

(PS that sign is now available for purchase in my brand spankin' new Etsy shop!  You can find it HERE. We will be adding new items all this week and next so check back!)

Lastly, did you notice anything different about the ol' mantel besides its being bedecked in hearts and gushy sayings?

Well, as a reminder, here is what it looked like before.

And here it is now!

That's right.  I had a mantel built over that lame drywall box shelf! I am so excited about my new mantel.  Isn't it lovely?  Dreams really do come true, you guys.

I thought I'd pass along the information of the amazing craftsman who made it for me.  No, I'm not being compensated in anyway.  I paid for my mantel.   I just like to share when I find something awesome and Steve of Parker Custom Woodworks is just that... awesome!  If you live in the Denver area and are in need of some woodworking, Steve is your guy.  He is meticulous and was waaaaay pickier than I was about everything!  The exact quality you want in a woodworker if you ask me.  And very affordable... another great quality.  :)

I had him send me some photos of some other jobs he has done and put together this jpg below that you can right click, save and/or print for your next project you need Steve's help with.  He really can do it all.

Love it all! Had a couple questions for you. The rose topiary ball-did you make that or buy it? I've seen them made with paper streamers but yours almost looks like frosting flowers. I see that your patterns match for the bunting and the frame with the hearts hanging down. Did you stiffen your fabric to hang on the strings, or glue them to cardboard cutouts? I'd love to make one! Thanks! fourinohio@att.net

I can't remember when I came across your blog first, but I have come back many times and really enjoy it. Thanks for the tip about the craftsman. I live just outside of Denver and will keep his name handy.
Thanks again!

I absolutely love your idea for a "night light". I am definitely going to do that! Not for a night light, but for decoration! Thanks!

Late comment, but found you by searching drywall mantle, and here you are! And I do live in the Denver area, and know that too many of the houses here have that drywall shelf! Mine is all the way across the FP (which is not centered but off to the left ) and the nook for the TV...sigh.... It looks like your mantle was only over the FP? did he cover the entire thing? I couldn't really tell in the pic of your super cute (!) V-Day mantle.

so how did you make the vertical framed hearts?
