No Sew Valentine Burlap Banner

It's not that I WANT to be decorating for Valentine's Day already.  It's just that after Christmas, my normal decor just isn't cutting it.  I need to ease myself slowly back into my day-to-day decor.  Valentine's Day is a nice bridge back to normalcy.

So, I'm working on my Valentine's Day mantel.  And I started with a cute burlap bunting.  I had pinned this on Pinterest and decided to try and figure out how to make one myself.  But the easy way with no sewing!  Not that it would have been hard to sew a few lines here but still... I didn't wanna.

Here is what I came up with.

Not exactly the same, now that I have them side-by-side but they were sure close in my head! :)

Here's how I made mine:

1) Cut burlap into seven 5x7 inch pieces.

By the way, a little tip to cutting burlap that I learned from the nice lady at the cutting counter at Joann's.  In order to cut a straight line on the burlap, measure to where you want to cut, then pull out one of the burlap fibers at that spot.

You're then left with a nice line to follow!  So much easier than trying to keep that crazy stuff straight yourself.

2) I made a template out of some copy paper I had near by and used it to cut the shape of each pennant.

3)  I then folded down about an inch at the top of each pennant and hot glued it around some baker's twine.

4) Finally, I cut some hearts out of patterned paper and hot glued them on as well.  Done!

Very inexpensive (maybe $5? depending on what supplies you already have) and easy!

I'll show you my complete mantel next week as I finish up a couple more projects.  Also, I'm having a new mantel built this week!  I have had enough of that drywall box that has been passing itself off as a mantel for these past six years.  Enough is enough already.  I can't wait until it's done!

Have you started any Valentine's Day crafting yet?  Am I whacko for starting this early?  You can be honest here.

I started Valentines day crafting, and when my husband say it, he sweetly told me maybe January was a little early for Valentines day decorations. (Little did he know I had no intention of actually putting them up- just getting ready!)

Nah, not whacko! I get excited about valentines day too. Mostly because the anniversary of the first kiss between me and my husband is the day after.
