| {photo taken today after church} |
Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful women out there who are doing your best day in & day out. My Mother's Day has had its ups & downs, if I'm being honest.
This morning started out fairly awful as I had a "run in" with my second son... the Dennis the Menace looking (and acting) one there on the right. What it was about is unimportant but, needless to say it ended with me freaking out and taking away everything that is near and dear to him... namely his DSi. He was screaming "I hate my family!" and the like for a good 20 minutes afterward. I know these things happen but when it happens on Mother's Day it is an immediate and sharp reminder that I suck as a Mom. I had no business reacting the way I did and I felt awful. But I was still mad. Things were not looking good for Mother's Day 2011.
We then go to church & Tanner glared at me from the stand as the Primary sang their Mother's Day songs. Awesome. (Luckily my other two kids were smiling and pointing at me as the words said "all flowers remind me of you.")
But then, during the last hour of church, someone tapped me on the shoulder and handed me a Mother's Day Questionnaire Tanner had filled out during his Sunday School class. Due to our current standing with each other I was very nervous to read it...not to mention my guilt over that morning was at an all time high at that moment.... and here is what I read (I left the spelling as is):
Why did God make mothers? To be helpfull
How did God make mothers? He mixed awsomeness with hair
What ingredients are mothers made of? sugar and spice and everything nice
Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom? we're both crazy
What kind of little girl was your mom? I have no idea
What did mom need to know about dad before she married him? How he would raise the kids
Why did your mom marry your dad? she was crazy
Who's the boss at your house? Mom
What's the difference between moms and dads? ones a girl ones a boy
What does your mom do in her spare time? blog
What would it take to make your mom perfect? zero
If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be? zero
Zero.... I started crying and didn't stop. He then came in to find me after church and handed me a card he had colored in class. All it said on the inside was "Sorry Mom." I hugged him, said I was sorry too & we've been best friends ever since.
Would you have guessed all of this had transpired today if I would have just posted that photo up there and that was it? Is this too much Landee for you? I promise I won't bore you with a million personal stories here on Landee See, Landee Do but I just wanted you to know that I get it. And I'm right there with you.

Oh. Em. Gee. I never win anything and thanks for the shout out too. I just adore the questionnaire. I hope my kids think I'm a mix of awesomeness and hair. Happy Mother's Day!
Oh wow......Im in tears too!!! What an incredible Motehrs Day gift.....we all make mistakes and sometimes over react. Cut yourself some slack......I have five boys and each one of them are so different tht I never....ever get it right. What works with one doesn't work with the others......leave it to me to not have cookie cutter kids :) But I wouldn't have it any other way!!! We are blessed!! And I really, really love that one about God making us by mixing Hair and Awesomeness!!! LOL
I'm glad you shared this. There is nothing I love more than bloggers who share the good and the bad. Sometimes we all try too hard to seem perfect. With questionnaire answers like that, I'm sure you don't "suck" as a mom. If nothing else, your son heard you apologize; he heard you admit that you are human. What a wonderful memory you two have created. Happy Mother's Day.
What a great story! I died laughing when I read "mixed awesomeness with hair." So cute. Then I was almost in tears by the end. So sweet. Happy Mother's Day!

Oh...I LOVE it! "mix awesomness with hair!" Happy mother's Day!
Touching peek into your life, thanks for sharing it. I needed the smile and the tears.
So sweet, sorry you had to have a run in w/ your little guy on Mother's day...but how sweet was that questionaire? You are truely blessed, and you do NOT suck as a mother! I remember when my little guy would getpset with me and tell me I wasn't his mom anymore...not now! He'd say, then through the sobs...you can be my mom again tomorrow, but not for today

Ahhh, the "zero" had me tearing up. So sweet. There are days when I swear I hear, "Mom" five hundred times and when I'm out of patience and yell "WHAT?!", the one asking will say, "I love you". Oh my gosh, melt me.
Tanner - thanks a lot for making me cry...I loved it!
this is adorable! so glad you posted!
Landee, I am so sorry to have missed this post because it is so real and transparent and precious. Thank you for sharing it with us! And my favorite line has gotta be "awesomeness and hair" classic!

Aw! Just proves that even when we get mad at our kiddos, they know how much we love them, and they still love us!
Wow, just read this for the first time! What a great kid you have! And you do NOT suck as a mom! I've seen that firsthand - you are the best PDerby mom EVER! :)
